Learn traditional West African Rhythms with percussionist and teacher Richmond Wiggens. Experience the Power of the Drum in this welcoming and uplifting class. Brand new drummers welcome!

  • All drums provided, or bring your own (Djembe, DjunDjun).
  • Learn proper drum technique, rhythms from West Africa, and how to feel comfortable and confident playing hand percussion!

Learn a mix of exciting & versatile rhythms from Cuba, Brazil, Africa and right here in Oakland! Covers basic technique, timing, how to feel the music, and how to play interlocking traditional and contemporary rhythms. All drums provided (congas, djembe, bongo, surdo, dundun, etc.) or bring your own!  All levels welcome!

Bobby was a founding member of the acclaimed RHYTHM CAFE ensemble and currently performs with Oakland-based Brazil:BLESS, Radio AFRO-Funk, Oakland RHYTHM and Imagine:NATION. Bobby also performs original material as the solo artist Bobby Beats.
