Father Time Trio

The Father Time Trio is a unique musical ensemble featuring three world-class musicians from three distinct parts of the world.

Massamba Diop is an electrifying percussionist from Dakar, Senegal who won the 2019 Grammy and Oscar awards for his ground-breaking contributions to the Marvel blockbuster film The Black Panther. Massamba’s touring and recording credits include work with Herbie Hancock, James Brown and Peter Gabriel. Massamba has been the principal tama (talking drum) player with African superstar Baaba Maal for over 35 years.

Edgardo Cambon is a singer and conguero (conga drummer) from Montevideo, Uruguay, who began his musical career at the ripe age of nine, singing Tangos on national TV. He has performed with Latin music superstars Jesus “Chucho” Valdez, Carlos Santana, Giovanni Hidalgo, and Eddie Palmeiri. Based in the Bay Area, California, Edgardo has led his crack salsa band Candela for 30 years, making it one of the most established Salsa Orchestras on America’s West Coast.

USA Percussionist Robert “Bobby” Wallace is based in Oakland, CA, where he has established a formidable career spanning the musical universe, having worked with top-tier musicians from Brazil (Margareth Menezes, Amanda Santiago), Trinidad (David Rudder, Starlift Steel Orchestra), and West Africa (Mamadou Sidibe, Massamba Diop), and domestically with stars in pop music (Bonnie Rita), folk (Joan Baez), soul (Netta Brielle, Jennifer Johns), and gospel (Michelle Jordan). Bobby has performed in Brazil, Cuba, Puerto Rico, Portugal, Morocco, Ireland, Mexico and Trinidad.

Together, the Father Time Trio produces an ear-bending mix of percussion, voice, melody and groove. With profound mutual respect, the Father Time trio presents material steeped in the rhythmic traditions of Senegal, Cuba and Brazil, yet infused with a contemporary assertion of ideas and feelings, song in English, Wolof, and Spanish.

The Father Time Trio is available for concerts, festivals, cultural celebrations of every kind, the world over, and is equally adept at performing/teaching in the educational field, sharing it’s insights into world percussion, history, geography, ethno-musicology and the cultural significance of rhythm.
